EDF Renewables is a subsidiary of the French utility EDF Group specialising in renewable energy production, EDF approached 3DW to build a fully interactive 3D model with the primary aim of it to be used to illustrate the views of the proposed Troston wind farm development.
The 3d visualisation has views of the proposed wind farm from local important locations including Carsphairn, St John’s Town of Dalry, Moniaive and various other key local landmarks.
The 3D model was used extensively at EDF’s public consultations to explain the development plans to stakeholders with an interest in the project. Viewers were able to move freely around the 3D scene to view the proposed turbines from any location.
As part of the 3D solution the user also has the ability to switch on various planning constraints (physical and legislative) which the developer must consider. These are provided to us by the client as GIS files and effectively illustrate why certain design decisions and options have been selected.
