Bradwell B is a planned new nuclear power station located next door to the decommissioned Magnox nuclear power station Bradwell A, located on the Dengie peninsula at the mouth of the River Blackwater in Essex.
After previously being involved in the planning and consultation process with Sizewell C and Hinkley C EDF Energy/ CGN approached 3DW to come on board and offer our expertise to help with their consultations and online presence. The locality for Bradwell B has a long history of power generation with the original Bradwell power station beginning electricity generation in 1962 so it was seen as a natural choice for the new planned facility.
EDF Energy/CGN understand the importance of being able to successfully communicate the plans to local residents plus all stakeholders giving a deeper understanding of the proposals to present the visual impact of the development as seen from various locations. Our solution was to create a fully interactive 3D model of the entire area which would include the old and new power station site, local landmarks, any of the relevant planning information overlayed onto the local area and also several video fly-throughs of the developments were also produced.
The 3D model for the project was used at extensive public consultation events with a member of the 3DW team being part of the EDF development team to support their efforts in the public space, offering information plus the expertise to show the 3D model in its best form.
We created an extensive set of still images which have featured in the supporting documentation submitted by EDF/CGN to the planning authorities and also as part of their online consultation during the pandemic of 2020.
