EDF and Padero Solar approached 3DW to help with the consultation period for the Longfield Solar Farm project which is a proposed new solar energy farm located near Chelmsford in Essex. The project has been sighted to provide vital renewable energy to the energy mix of the UK, helping to bring the country to the target of becoming net-zero by 2050.

The Longfield Solar project includes other aspects of important associated developments such as a co-located battery storage in the area, also the proposals include some grid infrastructure development to connect Longfield Solar Farm to the National Grid with plans for visual mitigation also included in the plans. The Longfield Solar project has secured a grid connection agreement that allows EDF and Padero Solar to export or import up to 500MW of electricity to and from the National Grid.

3DW in collaboration with the design teams decided to build a wide package of visual tools for use across the consultation period. These included a fully interactive 3D model with different design choices, flythroughs pre-defined for public viewing across public highways, an interactive exhibition which can be viewed HERE and for the first time high-resolution photomontages of the area to give a good representation of the site from various locations.

The package of tools was well-received by all stakeholders receiving many viewers across the various platforms proving to be a sound decision to deliver the project in this manner.
