Gatwick is a world-class airport serving the south of England and beyond delivering flights to international locations. The airport is always developing on its reputation and evolving its offering this is why The Northern Runway scheme at Gatwick Airport is important to the future. It seeks to bring the existing standby runway at the airport into routine use, to facilitate these objectives infrastructure changes are required across the estate to bring this to life.
The team at Gatwick approached 3DW to build a comprehensive 3D solution that would help visualise this proposal bringing the development to life in a rich and visually pleasing interactive platform. 3DW would also in addition to building the 3D model assist in the public consultations of the development by building a virtual exhibition which to this date has gathered fantastic viewing figures after going live with the exhibition being received in a positive light by the public.
In addition to the Gatwick Airport runway proposals 3DW visualised fundamental changes to its surrounding environment, the 3D model also includes proposed development options for the future including road access changes, train station access, local car parks and infrastructure changes such as support building changes and a wide range of constraints pre-built into the software.
We see this 3D solution developing over time as more of GAL’S future plans come online, with the model being so flexible it will be an organic process that we see becoming even more invaluable to the design teams and investment decision-makers at Gatwick.
