Eirgrid - Celtic Interconnector

EirGrid are Ireland's major electric power transmission body and they approached 3DW to provide graphics and support for the Celtic Interconnector project which is a plan to lay a large electrical cable running from France to Ireland. The project is sensitive due to the amount of infrastructure at the coastal cable landing point, substation extension and convertor stations which are close to urban spaces.

For such a large project Eirgrid understood the importance of the 3D solutions we could provide to help with the stakeholder consultations and public engagement, which were planned as part of the proposals.

Initially, we built a fully interactive 3D model that showed three landfall options and views of the proposed converter station at six potential locations, all set inside the 3D environment that was used in public consultations.

The final solution was a 3D model covering a large geographical area including all of the proposed infrastructure that helped stakeholders fully and clearly understand the proposals.

As part of our wide package of solutions, we built a bespoke set of animations of the cable landfall sites and rendered high-quality flythroughs of the project that were used on social media and the public consultations.
