Coriolis Energy approached 3DW to produce an interactive 3D solution that is representative of the planned Y Bryn onshore Wind Farm near Port Talbot in South Wales UK.
It is projected that this scheme would deliver enough clean energy to power over 125,000 homes or the equivalent of approximately all households within Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend combined. Which would in turn represent a considerable contribution to carbon reduction targets in Wales.
3DW was asked to come on board by Coriolis as the scheme planned is seen as a sensitive project containing a large number of turbines in an area that is already a key area in the energy mix for the UK.
The 3D application includes views from locations within a 10km buffer of the proposed site including sensitive areas plus historically important locations such as Margam Castle which gives stakeholders and interested bodies the best idea of how the proposals affected the landscape. Using various data providers such as ordnance Survey 3DW built a fully interactive and visually pleasing 3D model that contained highly detailed areas, low detail massing blocks, accurate tree data and a series of animations to show various planning constraints.
The end solution is suitable for presentation to project stakeholders at all levels ranging from politicians and planners to business owners and residents. Inside the application, you have the ability to adjust the design and export these locations into an easily accessible dataset for design teams and stakeholders which is available to assist in the design, planning, public relations and community consultation activities associated with the proposed wind farm.
Inside the 3D application alongside the production of the 3D application, 3DW rendered a series of movies that facilitated a virtual exhibition that was produced by Coriolis.
