We produced a fully interactive 3D visualisation of the offshore infrastructure associated with the Bay State Wind project. The primary focus was a tool to engage with offshore stakeholders associated with the marine environment especially fisheries and shipping in order to effectively illustrate the wind farm in various weather and lighting conditions so they can fully appreciate the scale, size and distances between turbines.
The 3D model produced allows users to experience navigation through the wind farm on board a vessel or aircraft with the ability to dynamically change the time of day and weather conditions including the sea state.
Members from the 3DW team attended Open House events at venues along the coast and islands of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The 3D model was presented to stakeholders who had the opportunity to view the 3D environment using an Oculus Rift VR headset. Users were able to experience navigation through the wind farm, onboard a familiar vessel or aircraft, with the ability to dynamically change the time of day and weather conditions, including the sea state.
We also produced a video flythrough presentation which can be seen below.
