Firth of Forth, Scotland

Berwick Bank offshore wind farm and Marr Bank offshore wind farms are two projects in the early stages of development located in the Firth of Forth, 40km off the coast of East Lothian in Scotland.

The two wind farms sit next door to each other and close to the Seagreen 1 project which is also in early-stage development this project is located 27km off the coast of Angus.

SSE Renewables approached 3DW to provide our range of 3D solutions to help them their consultation activities. Looking at the project from the outset we decided to build a fully interactive 3D model of the proposals. The 3D model included roads, low detail buildings, tree data, high detail 5m terrain overlaid with high-resolution aerial imagery, project constraints and viewpoints from local landmarks that increase stakeholders understanding of how the proposals sit within the landscape.

The 3D Model can be used in a variety of ways including in the face to face consultation space when time allows or in a virtual exhibition platform in which fly-throughs of this model were used to educate about the proposals. If the Berwick and Marr Bank proposals are consented for development construction of the development could begin in 2024 with the wind farm generating first power in 2027 and fully operational by 2028.
