Hynamics, a subsidiary of EDF commissioned 3DW to build a comprehensive interactive 3D solution for the Fawley Green Hydrogen project.

Located at the site of the former Fawley Power Station, this ambitious development is a part of the UK’s hydrogen strategy aimed at providing low-carbon fuel for local industry and helping to decarbonise one of the South Coast's most significant industrial hubs.

Hynamics were looking to tap into the great expertise 3DW offers to bridge the gap between complex engineering plans and public perception, particularly given the site's high-profile location on the edge of the New Forest. Our team constructed an immersive 100km² digital environment that encompasses the proposed electrolyser, storage facilities, associated water and grid infrastructure. This allowed stakeholders to explore the facility in the context of its existing industrial surroundings and the sensitive natural landscape of the Solent.

Using a combination of high detail terrain mapping, 3DW ensured every aspect of the model was geographically precise using OS data. A vital feature for this project was the ability to demonstrate visual mitigation, the model includes a seasonal foliage toggle enabling viewers to see how proposed woodland screening would perform in both summer and winter. The 3D model has the functionality to switch between an existing and proposed setting therefore giving stakeholders the ability to instantly compare current views with the completed project from any vantage point.

By building this model 3DW added significant value to the project’s consenting phase. Our interactive tools allowed Hynamics to proactively address local concerns regarding visual impact, replacing static drawings with a transparent, navigable experience. This approach streamlined the consultation process but also built a higher level of trust and understanding between the developers and the local community.
