EDF Renewables asked 3DW to develop an interactive 3D visualisation for the proposed Rosefield Energy Park in Buckinghamshire. This project followed a similar set of parameters set for other projects produced for EDF to illustrate the visual impact of the solar panels from various locations across the surrounding landscape. The 3D interactive model we built was made suitable for a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including planners and politicians. Our team created an expansive 225km² study area using 5m resolution terrain data supplemented with 25cm high-resolution aerial imagery and the latest OS maps.

Within the central study area buildings are represented as accurate massing block structures with appropriate roof shapes. To aid orientation and address heritage considerations, photographic imagery was added to landmark buildings at six key locations including Claydon House and St Mary's Church with a dedicated drop-down menu for direct navigation to these specific viewpoints. The model also features a representation of all major roads and railway lines in the area for increased definition and includes 3D representations of trees with a seasonal toggle to show the difference between summer and winter foliage.

A key technical feature of the application is the ability to step through the construction sequence at six-monthly intervals. This allows stakeholders to visualise the expected progress of the solar panels alongside typical construction compounds. By delivering a wide ranging 3D solution 3DW added significant value to the project's development and consenting phase. Our interactive tools allowed EDF Renewables to remove ambiguity and increase public understanding by replacing static plans with a transparent, navigable experience. This visual clarity fostered more effective community engagement, enabling stakeholders to make informed judgements based on a realistic representation of the Energy Park within its local environment.
