I am Steven McMillan, Project Manager for this project. My role is to oversee the development stage, primarily focusing on carrying out surveys and preparing preliminary designs to support the development of options, the selection of preferred options and the preparation of planning applications for consent approvals. I work with the project team to deliver to an agreed programme and to prepare key deliverables to support the development process.
Sharon Powell - Community Liaison Manager
Hi there, I'm Sharon Powell and I am the Community Liaison Manager for the Shetland Renewable Connections Project. My role is to engage, communicate and coordinate activities between SSEN Transmission and the community, hosting and attending community meetings. These meetings give community members and stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback on SSEN projects which helps inform and improve our project as it develops.
Jim MacMillan - Lead Land Manager
Hello, my name is Jim MacMillan and I’m the Land Manager for the Shetland Renewables Connection Project. My role within the project team is to liaise with landowners and tenants affected by the routes of overhead lines and underground cables, to establish suitable access routes and prepare wayleave agreements.
Jean Gaillard - Lead Land Manager
Hello, my name is Jean Gaillard and I’m the Lead Land Manager for the Shetland Renewable Connections Projects. My role within the team is to ensure that we identify and engage with the landowners and tenants who are directly affected by these projects. It is also to ensure that we limit our impact on their land use activities where possible, and that where this isn’t possible to ensure that landowners and tenants are properly and fairly compensated.
Roy Ferguson – Environment Project Manager
Hello, my name is Roy. I am the Environmental Project Manager for the Shetland Renewable Connection Project. My role within the project team is to ensure environmental issues and constraints are identified, assessed and taken into full consideration as the project progresses. I also manage specialist environmental consultants used to undertake site surveys and carry out detailed assessments where required.
Nick Moore - Marine Consents Manager
Hello, my name is Nick Moore, I am the Marine Consents Manager for the Shetland Renewable Connections Project. My role within the team is to ensure marine environmental issues, constraints and other sea users are identified, assessed and taken into full consideration as the project progresses. I also manage specialist Marine Environmental Consultants that undertake the Marine EA, and associated assessments on behalf of SHE Transmission when required.
Mohammed Akhtar - Underground Cable Engineer
Hi, my name is Mohammed and I'm the underground cable engineer for the Shetland Renewable Connections Project. My role within the project team is to develop the cable alignments for our substation connections, minimising technical constraints and incorporating feedback from our environmental and lands team.
Ewelina Metlak – Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer
Hello, my name is Ewelina Metlak, I am the Overhead Line (OHL) engineer for the Shetland Renewable Connections project. My role is to support the OHL design through the development and delivery of the projects, ensuring engineering issues are identified, assessed and taken into consideration as the project progresses.

The room is split into two, one for SSEN Transmission and one for SSEN Distribution. The first room is Distribution focusing on plans for Gremista Grid Supply point and the second is Transmission focusing on connections for contracted wind generation, Gremista and South Yell Switching Station.
