Project Description


Coire Glas Connection project will support the UK move towards net zero carbon energy system by 2050. It is required to connect the Coire Glas Pumped Hydro Storage Ltd and will have a capacity of up to 1500MW, some rationalisation will form part of these works.

The project includes the following elements:


. A new Coire Glas 400kV Switching Station

. Approximately 7.5km of 400kV double circuit overhead line (OHL). Installed from the proposed switching station to the proposed Loch Lundie substation.

. A new 400/132kV substation in the vicinity of Loch Lundie

. Approximately 8.5kn of 400kV double circuit OHL. Installed from the proposed Loch Lundie substation to the existing Fort Augustus substation at Auchterawe.

. Rationalisation of sections of the existing 132kV Fort William and 132kV Invergarry Power Station OHL circuits.

The planning applications will be submitted by the end of this year, 2025 with determination expected in Autumn 2026

The Map


In order to view the visualisations and navigate the portal, please start by clicking on any of the cameras on the adjacent map. They are situated next to their relevant viewpoints to allow access to areas of interest.

Should you prefer to view the map in satellite, this can be done by clicking the ‘Satellite’ tab at the top right hand corner of the map.

Once you have clicked on a viewpoint, if you want to return to the full map at any point, please click on the project map icon situated down the left-hand side of the map – it is a location pin icon on top of a grid.

If you are viewing a video and would like to return to the overview map, the project map icon is situated at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Visualisations


Once you click on a visualisation, you will be presented with two tabs across the top middle of the screen; ‘Proposed Option 1’ and ‘Proposed Option 2’

If you click on the Proposed Option 1 tab, it will show you the proposed overhead line route for option 1.

If you click on the Proposed Option 2, it will show you the proposed overhead line route for option 2.
